Even before COVID-19, one in seven Colorado high school students said they had seriously considered suicide within the past 12 months. Primary care interventions can have a dramatic positive impact on this pediatric mental health crisis. This ECHO series will support primary care providers in the outpatient setting by offering a practical suicide prevention care pathway based on the Zero Suicide framework. The five sessions will cover the implementation of an evidence-based screening tool, assessment, safety planning, lethal means safety, referral/resources and ongoing management follow up plan to support youth experiencing suicidal ideation.
Sessions include a brief didactic presentation by an expert and discussion of participant-submitted cases. Participants are highly encouraged to submit de-identified patient cases for group discussion and expert consultations. Resources and referral information will be shared throughout the series.
There will be a sixth "workshop session" for participants wanting to implement suicide prevention practices in their clinic/office. Participants in this workshop will learn about common barriers and solutions to implementing a youth suicide care pathway in practice and will co-construct individualized implementation plans with ECHO series team members and other participants.
CME for this series has been applied for and is pending approval. ECHO participants typically earn one credit per session attended - five credits total for this series. The 6th workshop session is not eligible for CME.
You will be emailed a survey link at the end of this ECHO. Please be sure to complete this survey, which should take no more than 5-10 minutes. For series that offer continuing education (CE) credits, surveys must be completed by the indicated deadline in order to receive CE credit. CE credit will not be given for late survey submissions.
