What This ECHO Will Focus On
Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention: Improving Blood Lead Testing and Reporting in Colorado’s Children is a four-session ECHO series designed to increase blood lead testing and reporting rates among providers across Colorado. The content was developed for primary care providers who serve Medicaid and at-risk patients. Participants learn about the common sources of lead in Colorado, how to screen patients and how to care for children with elevated blood lead levels. In addition to didactic teaching, each session includes case study scenarios and in-depth examinations of real-life situations that will be analyzed and discussed.
CME for this series has been applied for and is pending approval. ECHO participants typically earn one credit per live-session attended.
This Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) activity was approved by Colorado Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Participants should only claim the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the series. Participants are expected to earn 1.0 contact hours/credits for each session completed.
In order to receive credit for this ECHO series, surveys must be completed by the indicated deadline.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Summarize childhood lead exposure in Colorado and across the US.
- Discuss strategies to reduce lead exposure in disproportionately impacted communities.
- Describe the identification and management of lead exposure in children.
- Discuss strategies to provide counseling and education for parents and caregivers.
- Describe opportunities to overcome barriers to lead screening, testing, and reporting.
