Foundational Skills for Entry-Level Preceptors

This series meets Wednesdays (Weekly) from 7:30AM to 8:30AM MST.

This series will offer introductory skills designed for clinicians interested in a role as a clinical educator within their practice. Clinical professionals (MD, DO, APRN, PA, NP, PharmD, and others) whom identify as inexperienced preceptors with an interest in student mentorship are encouraged to participate.

Series-level Learning Objectives

  • Describe the potential professional benefits you and your agency can gain from precepting students.
  • Identify strategies that enhance the preceptor's level of productivity.
  • Develop powerful questions that will further student learning.
  • Implement “the one minute preceptor” tool with students.
  • Implement communication strategies to facilitate instructive dialogue with students from any discipline.
  • Discuss best practices for supporting individual learning outcomes of clinical students through evaluations.
  • Explain the value of inter-professional precepting in the professional development of students.
